Running-in for Low Friction between Silicon-Containing Aluminum Alloy and Bearing Steel in Engine Oil

چکیده

The friction properties of an aluminum-silicon alloy (Al-Si) can be improved by increasing its silicon content. However, this deteriorate the material necessary for engine components. Therefore, alternative approach to reduce is required. This study investigated running-in behavior, reduction from initial stable phase sliding, between Al-Si with varying contents and bearing steel in fully formulated oil. silicon-free aluminum (Al) was classified into three modes: no (mode I), after a high-friction period II), immediate III). Al exhibited only mode I, low-silicon-content mainly displayed II, high-silicon-content III. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy revealed that, zinc dithiophosphate (ZnDTP) reacted matrix, suppressing adhesion forming molybdenum-dithiocarbamate-derived tribofilm. Nanoindentation micro-Vickers tests demonstrated that high hardness matrix did not increase ZnDTP reactions. friction-induced hardened layer on promoted reactions, suggesting key factor low-friction interface without

Evaluation of continuum damage at different temperatures for aluminum-silicon alloy of engine piston within low-cycle fatigue regime

In this article, the isothermal low-cycle fatigue continuum damage in the engine piston aluminum alloy has been evaluated at different temperatures. For this objective, experimental data of low-cycle fatigue tests on standard specimens were used at 280, 350 and 425°C. Based on the continuum damage mechanics method, the fatigue damage was calculated during cyclic loading. Obtained results, inclu...

Dynamics of static friction between steel and silicon.

We conducted experiments in which steel and silicon or quartz are clamped together. Even with the smallest tangential forces we could apply, we always found reproducible sliding motions on the nanometer scale. The velocities we study are thousands of times smaller than in previous investigations. The samples first slide and then lock up even when external forces hold steady. One might call the ...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Effect of Aluminum on Microstructure and Thickness of Galvanized Layers on Low Carbon silicon-Free Steel

In hot dip galvanizing, several parameters such as chemical composition of coating bath, immersion time and surface roughness of specimens could affect microstructure and properties of coating. In this article, the effect of aluminum content, immersion time and surface roughness on structure and properties of alloy layers have been investigated. Specimens of low carbon silicon-free steel with d...

Oxidation of silicon containing steel

Steels containing sufficient concentrations of silicon tend to form a low melting temperature oxide called fayalite, which then penetrates both the steel and any other oxide to form a mechanical key. As a consequence, routine descaling operations fail to remove all traces of FeO that remain attached to the final product and oxidise to form a red oxide blemish on the surface. The formation of ox...
